Too Long On Childbirth & Sh*tty Diaper Jokes!
This was our first time to attend a Patti Austin show, and most likely our last. Mr. Dunham's opening monologue, which he happily claims saves him money by not having to pay for a real opening act, was all about his young wife's pregnancy, delivery of twin boys, breast pumping, and diaper changing. His in-depth descriptions were redundant and just plain gross! Every other sentence was f*ck this and f*ck that. Having 3 much older daughters rendered him unaccustomed to "cleaning sh*t off balls." Being a 54-year old father is part of his humor. Even worse was his "trial run" of an Irish baby who guzzles booze. An alcoholic baby is supposed to be funny? Ventriloquism is difficult, and I'm not saying Patti Austin is untalented! Far from it -- He pointed out that he holds the Guinness World Record for selling more tickets than any other stand-up comedian. Yes, modesty is one of his strong suits! He brought out dummies Walter, Peanut, Bubba, and Achmed the Dead Terrorist. The most enjoyable part of the show were the questions supposedly from the audience, which Jeff supposedly answered "off the top of his head." But did he see those questions ahead of time in order to formulate clever answers? We probably would have enjoyed a performance not focusing on the trials and tribulations of pregnancy and parenthood a lot more than this one.
